Little Diamonds Hat
I had three small skeins of handspun yarn.
They were all the same kind of wool and the same
color, but some of the yarns were a little thinner
and some were a little thicker. I organized my
knitting bag so that I could start the hat with the
thicker yarn and finish it with thinner yarn. The
hat’s crown shaping kind of hid the fact that the
yarn wasn’t completely consistent. I think it looks
very nice.
I would call the yarn for this hat a light worsted
weight. The good thing is, if you can’t quite get
gauge, the hat will be just a little larger, which is
fine. I’m told that my “newborn” size of 12.5
inches might actually be too small for babies with
larger noggins. I used size 5 needles, but if larger
needles give you a fabric you like, feel free to go
up a needle size or two.
Note: This did turn out to be more of a preemie size. So, if you’re planning this for a full-term baby, use larger needles.
The website that previously hosted this has dropped all of my old patterns. They are currently unavailable, but I may reissue them at another time.
