This is a solid afghan and will provide lots of warmth for those cold winter days and nights. This afghan measures 48” x 60”. It is made with Red Heart Super Saver yarn in linen, black, claret, burgundy, gold, cornmeal, light grey, windsor blue, grey heather and soft white. The pattern includes a 4 page color chart, but the legend for the chart is not in the magazine. I have given the legend to the editor and it should be posted online soon. Most of the colors on the chart are self explanatory, but there are a few places that might be confusing. The train tracks are worked in grey heather (the darker grey) and the smoke is worked in light grey. The light on the headlight is worked in soft white, which is missing from the materials list in the magazine. This afghan is worked in single crochet with color changes througout. The unused colors that will be used again close by in the same row are carried on the wrong side (back) of the afghan. Wherever the unused color is carried for more than about 4 stitches, it should be tacked under a stitch so it isn’t hanging loose with a greater chance to be snagged! To tack the unused color, simply hold it right behind the next stitch on the previous row (or in front of the next stitch if you’re working on a wrong side row so it will be on the back side of the afghan) and catch it in the single crochet stitch when you insert your hook under both loops of the single crochet stitch. When you yarn over to draw up a loop, it should be encased by the working yarn along with the 2 loops of the single crochet stitch below. I have included a close up photo of the wrong side to show the carried yarn colors. I hope this information helps those of you who are brave enough to tackle this afghan!
