This pattern was partially inspired by dragon tails and uses “Log Cabin” style construction, where each new block is joined on top of the previous one(s). Each tier of blocks in the scarf is wider but shorter than the previous, creating a slowly expanding tapered shape.

The pattern is designed for countdown calendar/advent mini skeins or you can use any minis or leftovers from your stash. One of the important features of this pattern is that it was designed to use as close as possible to equal amounts of each color - no more uneven leftovers!

The pattern is very easy! If you can cast on, pick up stitches, knit, and bind off, you have all skills required.

Designed for 24 or 25 mini skeins, there are options for both 10g/40yds and 20g/80yds. The pictured scarf uses 25 x 10g minis and is approx. 60” tip-to-tip and 15” at the wide end. NOTE: The 20g mini version to make a shawl has not yet been tested but is estimated to end up 65” long and 28” at the wide end.

At this time, this is not as fully detailed as I usually write my patterns, has not been tech edited or test knit by anyone other than me, and is therefore free in its current form. Later I may choose to clean it all up and make a full version of the pattern, at which time it might gain a price tag.

ERRATA: Even blocks: Starting at the top point of the work and working along the angle facing right, using the next color and left needle…
