I designed this little vest with Lorelai Gilmore in mind - I can see her walking through Stars Hollow with a cup of coffee, wearing this vest with jeans and a jacket. It’s perfect for keeping out the chilly breeze on a cold day.

Lorelai is intended to be worn with approximately 10.5cm / 4” of positive ease. The ease is built into the pattern, so choose the size below that has approximately this amount of positive ease for your size. If you would like more or less ease make sure you double check the measurements and choose a size accordingly.

The vest is knitted top down; you work the back panel and the armhole shaping for the back first, and then pick up in the cast on edge for each side of the neckline (you work each side separately), which you then join in the centre front neck with some cast on stitches. You will then work armhole shaping for the front. Once this is complete you’ll join the back and front pieces and knit the body down in the round. You’ll add ribbed trims to the neck and armholes last.

Lorelai is knitted using one strand of either Drops Snow OR Drops Andes held together with one strand of Drops Kid Mohair, so you will be working with two strands of yarn throughout.

For main fabric: One of each; 40cm / 16” and 80cm / 32” length 8mm / US 11 circular needle, or size required to get gauge
For ribbing on neckband: 40cm / 16” 7mm / US 10.75 circular needle, or alternatively 80-100cm / 32”-40” circular for Magic Loop technique
You will also need a spare circular needle, ideally in the same size as the needles you use for your main fabric
