Lovebirds Cushion
This cushion is inspired by the nature motifs found in European folk art and the bold two-colour stranded knitting associated with Selbu, Norway. The cushion is knitted in the round from the bottom up using the stranded technique.
Originally designed for Knit Now magazine, the pattern is now available as a ravelry download.
Size:
To fit a 40 cm / 16 inch square cushion pad
Finished measurements:
40 cm x 40 cm / 16 inches x 16 inches
Yarn Used:
Wendy Merino DK
3 balls each in Birch 2365 (MC) & Cassis 2390 (CC)
Please Note: the original sample used Wind Chime 2364 as the MC, which is now discontinued, however Birch is an ideal substitute.
Needles:
3.75 mm circular (60 cm) or long DPNs
Tension:
24 sts and 28 rows to 10 cm / 4 inches using 3.75 mm needles, measured over colourwork pattern after blocking
Notions:
4 stitch markers
4 buttons approximately 2.5 cm / 1 inch in diameter
tapestry needle
Skills required:
- working in the round
- working with two yarns at the same time using the stranded technique
- ability to read a chart (the colourwork pattern is charted only, written instructions are limited to explanations of how to use the charts in the pattern)
