Lucie is a sweet little reversible shawlette combining both knitting and crochet. Soft and lofty garter stitch combines with a pretty crochet border to give (depending on how you wear it) a shawlette, scarf, or neckwarmer.

Knit on big needles, Lucie is a fun and easy knit/hook, ideal for last minute gifting and perfect for making the most of small amounts of special yarn.

Construction:
Lucie is knit top down in garter stitch using yarn over increases to give a narrow crescent shape. 8mm needles (or size required to get gauge of 11-12 st/10cm). Stitches are bound off when desired size is reached or until a % of your yarn has been used (details in pattern). Have scales on hand so you can keep track of your yarn usage.

A crochet border is then applied (working side to side) with a 5mm hook. Edging is suitable for an adventurous beginner - you should know how to sc, dc and tr. Pattern uses US crochet terms.

Yarn:
Lucie was designed to make the most of small amounts of special yarn. Recommended weight is thick DK or Light Worsted. Small shawlette measures approximately 30cm deep and 100cm across worked from 100 -150g of yarn (approx 200-300m).

Size is easily adjustable if you wish to make a bigger piece just have more yarn on hand.

Suitable for solids, semi solids, and variegated yarns. You can also work the border in a contrast colour if you wish.
This pattern is also suitable for gradient yarns. I used a gradient yarn for the purple sample pictured (Tri’Coterie Yarns). Just be aware that while the body is worked top down, the border is worked from side to side - so you will get a top to bottom colour effect on the body, and then a side to side effect on the edging.
