Luke's Diner Pullover
The Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, California, where Gilmore Girls was filmed, was previously used for films such as The Music Man and Bonnie and Clyde, and shows like The Dukes of Hazzard and Growing Pains. However, the pilot was shot in a Toronto suburb in Ontario. This little Canadian town would have a big impact on how the Burbank set was styled. In Canada, Luke’s Diner was shot at Williams Hardware store—something that carried over in the storyline about Luke’s father. To maximize studio lot space, many locations had two or even three uses: Luke’s Diner was also Taylor’s soda shop, the flower shop, the library, bank, and Doose’s Market stockroom. Weston’s was also the arcade, the video store, high school classrooms, and Luke’s apartment. Bootsy’s newsstand doubled as the Yale bar. Dean’s house was also the Cheshire Cat Inn, the Black, White & Read Theater, a Lord of the Rings party house that Lorelai and Sookie catered, and Liz and TJ’s garage. Lorelai’s house was also Chilton, Sookie’s home, and the Dragonfly interiors. Fans of the show can still tour some of the facades from Stars Hollow on the studio lot, which is decorated festively during the holidays.
This classic pullover shows the world that you’re loyal to Luke’s Diner! Knit flat from the bottom hems and cuffs up starting with a 2x2 ribbing, the sweater shows off Luke’s iconic coffee cup logo worked in intarsia on the front. Once all the pieces are made, the front and back are then seamed at the shoulder, the sleeves are set in and seamed, and the undersides of the sleeves and the sides of the body are seamed. Stitches around the neck opening are picked up to work the collar. The classic drop-shoulder silhouette is easy to wear in an oversized or fitted way, depending on the wearer’s preference. Come on, we’re going to Luke’s!
