I used a fiber blend of 80 percent Merino wool and 20 percent kid mohair to create softly rolled rolags, from which I spun a thick, low-twist yarn (see preceding articles). The brioche stitch as the main component of this cowl complements the loft of the preparation and the spinning. Luxury overload!

Finished Measurements
Height: 8.5 inches (21.5 cm)
Circumference: 20.75 inches (52.5 cm), unstretched

Materials

  • Approximately 130 yards / 119 meters bulky weight yarn (2-ply, average of 8 WPI, average grist of 728 YPP, 80% Merino wool/20% kid mohair rolags)
  • US size 10 (6 mm) needles, either double points or 20-inch (50-cm) circular
  • Stitch marker, tapestry needle

Gauge
16 stitches and 24 rounds to 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch

15 stitches to 4 inches (10 cm) in brioche stitch – this stitch pattern is a short 2-round repeat, and brioche knitters use different strategies for counting rows/rounds, so round gauge is not provided.
