Elizabeth Zimmerman is credited with inventing the pi shawl, which has become very popular in recent years. Pi is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter and in a pi shawl, the ratio of a shawl’s intended circumference to its diameter dictates the spacing of the increase rounds.

In Macy, I’ve used this formula to create a half circle, which is quicker to knit than a full circular shawl. The simple lace pattern is complemented by boldly colored miracle beads. The shawl is finished off with an edging that is knitted on at the end.

Single Join:
