It may look like magic but the only special powers involved in this throw are mosaic crochet! If you’ve never tried it before, it really is easier to do than it looks.

Originally published as a CAL across issues 110 to 116 of Simply Crochet magazine, the pattern is now available in full, in a choice of UK or US terms, both of which include 11 clear charts, full written instructions and lots of helpful photos.

Video tutorials for Part 1 are available from my YouTube channel

Magic Carpet uses the two most common mosaic crochet methods, alternating between inset and overlay mosaic crochet, and is finished off with a neat envelope border.

However, I am aware that some people prefer not to mix mosaic crochet techniques in a single project, so I have now added a bonus file, which includes 11 new alternative charts which will allow you to make the entire blanket in EITHER inset OR overlay mosaic crochet, if you prefer.
Please note, this bonus file is charts only, and does NOT include written instructions for the new charts, so please only use it if you are confident following mosaic crochet charts.

Don’t want to make a large blanket?
Why not make a cosy scarf instead?

I noticed that the sample swatches I had whipped up to test the new charts were the ideal sizes for scarfs, so the bonus charts file also includes basic instructions and yarn requirements for making a scarf or infinity scarf.
Ideal if you want to make a quick gift.
