Mirrored waves ripple outwards in a subtle gradation in this modern lace shawl, designed by Nim Teasdale and based on Kieran Foley’s original MagicWaves pattern.

The stitches are not complex, but keeping them all flowing takes some attention, a sort of knitting meditation.

The shape can be blocked into a very deep point at the bottom, or the wings can be stretched outwards a little to form a slight curve at the upper edge.

The sample was knit on a 3.5mm/US4 needle with 470m/510yds of Wolle’s Yarn Creations Color Changing Cotton and measures 162x68cm (64x26in) after blocking.

A gradient yarn kit using Luxe from The Unique Sheep is available here from earthfaire.

Sizing is adaptable to any yardage of lace to fingering weight yarn. Gauge and needles will vary with yarn weight.

The pdf includes charts and a full written pattern.
