Magnificent Mittens by Kristin Nicholas
The pictorial version of Magnificent Mittens is based on the traditional shape of the Scandinavian or Latvian mitten. Commonly, most people think of these mittens featuring motifs including snowflakes or floral designs. The version before you is a bit funkier - charts reflect designer Kristin Nicholas’ interests in animal and floral life, gardening, pottery, and primitive culture’s motifs.
Pattern includes 6 sizes of knit in the round colorful mittens. Includes pictorial version and striped Fair Isle verstions. Two different tip shapings are included.
Magnificent Mittens are part of The World Knits Collection designed by Kristin Nicholas. There are 15 different stranded knitting projects which are designed to stretch a knitter’s skills. Each pattern includes instructions and many charts for the knitter to design their own project mixing Fair Isle charts with different stitches.
The original kits included 6 colors of yarn, the pattern booklet and a color postcard of the project. Magnificent Mittens was originally published in 1993. Designer Kristin Nicholas now sells the patterns on her website and on Ravelry.
The World Knits Collection is designed for adventuresome and experienced knitters who aren’t afraid to take off on their own and modify charts and directions. Back in the day, it was a very successful project with knitters all over the country making lots of unique projects. All of the sample projects photographed were made by adventurous knitters back in the day. With the republication of the World Knits Collection, designer Kristin Nicholas is looking forward to seeing what the new group of knitters comes up with.
