I studied cultural and social anthropology in school. Because of that background and my continued interest in the subject, I always seek out to see old buildings, indigenous culture and ancient artifacts in my travels. Mahika, which is Sanskrit for earth, is inspired by hand-painted tile work I’ve seen many of my travels.

This beanie hat is worked from the bottom up using a stranded colorwork technique.

SIZES/ FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

• Medium (X-Large). Sample shown worked in Medium.

MATERIALS

• Bijou Spun Lhasa (75% yak down, 25 % bamboo, 2oz./180yds), 1 skein Brown (CC), 1 skein White (MC)
• US 3 / 3.25 mm 16” circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge
• US 3 / 3.25 mm 16” double-pointed needles (dpns), or size needed to obtain gauge
• US 1 / 2.25 or US 2 / 2.75 mm 16” circular needles, or 1-2 sizes smaller than larger needles
• Darning needle
• Stitch markers

GAUGE

• 32 stitches and 28 rows = 4” (10cm) in Color work pattern (see pattern chart) worked in the round using larger needles.
