My Main Street blanket is composed of twelve squares that represent small businesses. The squares are all inspired by small businesses from my favorite tv show, Gilmore Girls; however, they are not specific to Gilmore Girls, so it is alright if you have not seen the show! Any small business supporter can enjoy this blanket! Three main techniques are used in the blanket: tapestry crochet (changing color within the row and carrying the other colors against the work), granny squares (joining them), and crochet applique (attaching a piece of crochet on top of another piece of crochet). The beginning of the written pattern explains all these techniques and includes a photo tutorial for each of them. Additionally, the tapestry crochet squares all contain a color chart. I used Paintbox Yarn Cotton DK, but any DK weight yarn will work! Since all of the squares are different, this would be a great stash busting blanket in which you could use different yarn brands for different squares. Additionally, you can use your creativity to create many different projects with this pattern. Each square would make a nice pillow, or wall hanging. You could also make a smaller blanket with your favorite squares to create a baby blanket or lap blanket.
