Maitri
Maitri translates to ‘loving-kindness for all beings’ in Sanskrit.
This is a lovely, heart shaped crescent shawl that can be accessorized in many ways because of its wonderful drape.
The pattern begins at the back of the neck, with a double increase on each end and a single increase on either side of the center stitch (6 sts increased every other row) to create a flattering shape.
I created this design to bring awareness of animal cruelty to the knitting world. I also wished to show that non-animal fiber yarn can be delightful to knit with and can create a finished shawl that is not only beautiful in appearance, but also beautiful in spirit.
NOTE: You may wish to use multiple colors for this pattern. See my Camilla Shawl design for inspiration on how to use 3-4 different colors throughout the lace sections. It would look spectacular with this variation, too!
100% of the profits made from this pattern will be donated to Vegan Outreach.
Vegan Outreach is a 501c3 nonprofit organization working to end violence towards animals. Vegan Outreach seeks a future when sentient animals are no longer exploited as commodities. A huge thanks to the owners and creators of Vegan Yarn (offering beautiful vegan and cruelty-free yarn), Heidi and Jeremy, who were extremely generous and donated the gorgeous yarn for this design. Please visit their website at https://www.veganyarn.com. The yarn selection and colorways are amazing!
Hope you enjoy knitting this shawl as much as I loved knitting (and designing!) it! Many hugs and thanks! Gina :)
