Majestic
Majestic, as its name declares, is a truly magnificent example of a 1940s colourwork sweater. A vibrant all-over colourwork pattern is paired with a neat, fitted shape, puffed sleeves and a rounded neckline for the perfect vintage silhouette. This classic crew neck sweater was first published in the 1940s. It features an eye-catching all-over recurring colourwork motif of mirrored hearts set between a striped diamond motif. The colours used repeat throughout the sweater to create an appealing regularity to the design. Pattern placement at the neckline of the sample differs slightly to final version of the pattern.
The sweater commences with a deep ribbed welt, with the body knitted in the round and three lower body length options are provided. The sleeves too, are also worked in the round from the bottom up, commencing with a deep ribbed cuff. Three sleeve lengths are also provided to ensure the sleeve patterning matches the body for all sizes.
Some guidence is also provided within the pattern notes, to aid in the process of how to convert this sweater so it can be knitted as a cardigan.
Majestic is knitted in Fenella 2 Ply, our 2 ply (vintage) weight yarn, worsted spun for a soft handle. Exquisite for Fair Isle projects as well as textured and lace stitches. Shown here using shades Yule, Porcellana, Dolly Blue, Marriner, Jonquil, Atomic Red and Chalk
Our model Charlie is shown wearing the 3rd size to fit chest 86cm (34in) in the medium length.
The pattern includes instructions for 10 sizes to fit chest measurements 71 - 152cm (28 - 60in) and is designed to be worn with a small amount of positive ease. The pattern contains clear written instructions plus a comprehensive schematic diagram and sizing chart, together with clear charted instructions for the colourwork areas.
A yarn kit is also available containing all the yarn required to knit Majestic.
