Malachite
The Malachite shawl is designed for using up those odd fancy skeins from your stash. A skein of hand dyed yarn can be paired with a skein of commercial yarn.
This heart-shaped shawl has elongated wings so the top edge of the shawl curves up around the shoulders helping the shawl stay in place more easily.
The pattern is charted.
The shawl worked in mosaic knitting, one of the easiest colourwork techniques. The mosaic might look intricate but fear not; it is fun and easy to make. Just one colour is used at a time no need to carry both yarns. Work two rows in one colour, then two rows in another colour, slipping stitches to create the pattern.
The yarns used for the sample:
MC Bilum Hand Dyed Yarns, Sock, #20 variegated blue-green.
CC West Yorkshire Spinners Signature 4 Ply Solids, #99 black.
For the sample, both yarns were used up to the last few inches. Checkpoints are given to help you maximize usage of the yarn without running out.
Gauge is not crucial for this pattern but it will affect the finished measurements and amount of yarn needed.
Yarn
Fingering / 4 ply
100 g / 3.53 oz = 400 m / 437 yards.
Two contrasting colours, one skein (100 g / 3.53 oz) of each colour.
