Why Malala? Because when she was denied the right to study by the Taliban in Pakistan, she was not afraid to defy them and fight for her rights and those of other girls. They responded with a death threat and Malala was subsequently shot in the head by a Taliban gunman in 2012. She survived after many struggles but was not able to return to her dear home country. Nonetheless she went on advocating for free, safe and quality education for girls, placing the spotlight on the many abuses suffered under terrorist regimes. In 2014 Malala became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize at the tender age of 17.
