Something for men in aran style that is not “skin tight”. This fits up to 50 inches. We used a Peruvian wool blend yarn, but any yarn that knits up to gauge of 6 sts to 1 inch will work. That would be sport weight type yarns. Knitting needles, US #8, both straight and circulars.
