Manzanita Lace Shawl
Square sample knit in Sundara Silk Lace Weight.
This textured lace design was inspired by a trip to the Oregon coast and a skein of handpainted yarn. It is a great travel project and can be knit either as a square in rounds from the center out or as a triangle in rows from the neck down.
The easy-to-memorize, reversible stitch pattern is made up of bands of stockinette, reverse stockinette, garter stitch, and eyelets that repeat over 12 rounds or rows. The shawl is bound off with a narrow garter stitch lace edging that can be started at the beginning of any odd numbered round or row, making the size simple to customize.
The square also makes a cozy baby blanket or an interesting lap robe. Both versions look great in a variety of yarns, and instructions are included for lace, fingering, and Shetland/sport/DK weights.
