Map Lichen Open Cardigan
Map Lichen is an open garment, designed to wrap up over the shoulders and tumble down the back in elegant ripples, with wide floating sleeves and extra fabric at the fronts.
One of the few lichens that grows exclusively on rocks, map lichen spreads in single concentric patches with a dark outline adjacent to one another, giving the impression of a map or patchwork-like cover over the stones.
Like its wild counterpart, Map Lichen ‘grows’ on its wearer: by trying it on as you work, you can fully customise it to guarantee a perfect, individual fit and to suit personal preferences.
SIZES
Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) {6, 7, 8}
To fit back shoulder width:
38 (40, 41, 43, 44) {45, 46, 47} cm /
15 (16, 16.25, 17, 17.25) {17.75, 18, 18.5} in.
Designed to be worn with 10 cm / 4 in positive ease.
Note: This design is sized entirely ‘as you go’, therefore the instructions do not refer to each specific size. The finished measurements are approximate and mainly to be used for planning approximate yarn quantities required, since the garment will most likely be fully customised.
Sample 1 shown in size 6 with 10–16 cm / 4–7 in positive ease.
Sample 2 shown in size 2 with 10 cm / 4 in positive ease.
YARN
For The Love Of Yarn DK, 60% Merino, 20% Yak, 20% Silk, 212 m / 232 yds per 100g skein

Sample 1: Broonie
Sample 2: Inchmurrin
OR in DK which works to the specified gauge and has similar structure and stitch definition.
APPROXIMATE YARDAGE REQUIRED
1221 (1272, 1298, 1323, 1348) {1374, 1425, 1450} m / 1335 (1391, 1419, 1447) {1502, 1558, 1586} yds
Note: These yarn quantities are based on the finished measurements in the table. If you wish to increase any of these measurements, use this as a reference for estimating yarn amounts: 25 ‘shells’ use approximately 6g of yarn.
