This hat is an original design inspired by the great outdoor of the Pacific North West Coast and it owes homage to Salish Knitters from that area, however the motifs are more indicative of other First Native people. I spent several summers working on a commercial fish boat up and down the coast from Alaska to Washington state and my one of my fondest memories is of the many whales we encountered. It is knit with Cascade Ecological Wool but at a tighter gauge that is on the ball band. Hope you enjoy.
The name Maquinna is honour of my father who loved the land especially the forests and oceans of the West Coast. He was a stewart of the forests and a hobby historian. He told me stories and one that fascinated me was of Maquinna, a famous Nootka chief.
