CONSTRUCTION
This striped shirt is a seamless set-in-sleeve design with compound increases that is worked from the top-down as a yoked garment, with increases placed strategically to provide an ideal fit in the shoulders, chest and sleeves. Beginning at the back neck, the yoke is rapidly increased at four points similar to a raglan yoke to create the back and front panels, while simultaneously shaping the neckline through short rows worked flat. Once the neckline is shaped, the sleeve shaping done in the rnd within the yoke, and stripes are worked throughout the top. The garment is divided for sleeves and body and the body is worked straight in stockinette until it is divided into front and back for a long split hem. The sleeves are seamlessly shaped in the round as one piece to the cuffs. In final steps, the neckline is picked up to work the collar.

If care is taken to finish the garment neatly, it can be worn inside out to show the reverse stockinette side, featuring lovely little mini stripes (a personal favourite of mine!).

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR SIZE
This pattern has 9 size-inclusive options. Using the recipient’s chest measurement, choose a size that will give 6-8 inches (15-20.5cm) of positive ease (the difference between body’s smaller measurements and the garment’s larger measurements at these points). The most fool-proof method is to measure a similar fitting garment in your wardrobe and choose size that matches. See schematic in photos.

GAUGE in 4 inches/10cm after blocking
Stockinette, worked flat/in the rnd with Main needle:
22 sts and 30 rows/rnds.

YARN
Sandnes Garn Duo (55% merino wool, 45% cotton), 115m / 126 yds / 50g, in two colours:

• 4, 4, 5 || 6, 6, 6 || 7, 7, 8 balls in “Black 1099” (MC) or 429, 465, 532 || 581, 647, 695 || 753, 808, 868m of substitute DK-weight yarn in a dark tone, and
• 2, 3, 3 || 3, 4, 4 || 4, 4, 5 balls in “Putty 1015” (CC) or 233, 252, 289 || 316, 352, 378 || 409, 439, 472m of substitute DK-weight yarn in a light tone.

NEEDLES
Main: 3.5mm (US 4) circular needles.
Ribbing: 0.5mm (US 1) size smaller than main needles.
Bind off: 1mm (US 2) size smaller than main needles.
These are suggested sizes; adjust needles as required to obtain gauge.

NOTIONS
Scissors, scrap yarn or st holders, tapestry needle, and stitch markers (4).

CIRCULAR CORD LENGTHS - increase cord length as needed. 
Short: 16 inch (40cm) for working small stitch counts flat.
Long: 30 inch (75cm) cord for working large stitch counts in the rnd, or choose your preferred methods. 
Extra-long (optional): 80 inch (200cm) cord for working the largest sizes towards the end of the yoke. 

SPECIAL TECHNIQUES REQUIRED
Lifted short rows (see L&T in abbreviations), picking up stitches, working small and large stitch counts in the round, Italian Sewn Bind-off.
