Needles:

• US 5 (3.75mm) for marled and alternating marled stockinette.
• US 3 (3.25mm) for marled ribbing.

Yarn:

• Color A: 3 (3, 3, 3) (4, 4, 4) (4, 5, 5) (5, 6) skeins of La Bien Aimée Single Ply 100% Superwash Merino Wool Fingering (400yds/100g per skein). In the “Kingston” colorway.
• Color B: 3 (3, 3, 3) (4, 4, 4) (4, 5, 5) (5, 6) skeins of La Bien Aimée Single Ply 100% Superwash Merino Wool Fingering (400yds/100g per skein) in the “Hudson” colorway.

• 4 circular stitch markers

Gauge:

I recommend only swatching in marled stockinette and adjusting needle size accordingly. Use the same needle for all stockinette sections, and go down two sizes for the ribbing.

• Alternating Marled Stockinette: 21 stitches and 26 rows per 4” blocked.

• Marled or doubled ribbing: 22 stitches and 28 rows per 4” blocked

The Backstory:

For my second sweater design, I wanted to simplify neck shaping. I knew I didn’t want short rows in the back, so I created a gusset/extra set of raglan increases to avoid the need, and it works pretty great!

La Bien Aimée is of course one of the most gorgeous hand dyes out there, and I was honored to be able to marl (for the most part) two of their beautiful colors together.

As is typical with how I knit, I couldn’t just knit stockinette in the round for too long without getting bored. So I used a marled striping technique in the body and the sleeves which gave a cool pooling effect. If you want a more uniform look with more depth, choose two colors that have less contrast than what I used.

And in that same vein, this sweater would be amazing stash-busting using all different fingering/sock weight yarns!
