Mary W. is a triangular shawl worked from side to side. It is an original design of a asymmetrical shawl. The different lace patterns within the piece make it interesting, and the simplicity of the shaping allows for personal adjustments, dependent on yarn and size required.

This design is inspired by the figure of Mary Wollstonecraft was a radical women in the sense that she desired to bridge the gap between mankind’s present circumstances and ultimate perfection. She was truly a child of the French Revolution and saw a new age of reason and benevolence close at hand. Mary undertook the task of helping women to achieve a better life, not only for themselves and for their children, but also for their husbands. Of course, it took more than a century before society began to put her views into effect.

Yarn weight: Approximately 920 yards/ 840 m.  Light Fingering weight yarn . Yarn used to crochet the shawl in the picture: 920 yards or 840 meters (4 ball, Color 9 Amethyst, of Drops Flora “Garnstudio”, 65% Woolf, 35% Alpaca). I think a solid colour or slightly tonal works better for this shawl.
If you use a finer yarn you will simply have to make more rows.

Hook: US size 3.5 mm. (E)

Notions: Tapestry needle.

Measurements size: 31” / 78.74 cm wide x 74” / 187,96 cm long, after blocking.

Gauge: 18 dc and 7 rows = 4’’ 10 cm in stitch pattern.

Difficulty: Intermediate. Stitches used include: Chain stitch, Single crochet, Double crochet, Double crochet 2 together. Skill required include working flat Overall.
