What better sums up Maryland than its state flag and Maryland Blue Crabs? Inspired by Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Moccasin Sock, the leg and top of the foot are worked first, then the toe, heel, and finally the sole of the foot.

Skill Level: Advanced

Sizes:
Women’s Sizes 5-6½ (7-8½, 9-10½, 11+)

Finished Measurements:
Circumference—7 (7½, 8, 8¾)” / 17.8 (19.1, 20.3, 22.2)cm

Gauge:
30 sts x 40 rows = 4” / 10cm square in stockinette stitch worked flat

Materials:
Fingering weight yarn
MC (blue)—208 (231, 254, 279.5) yds / 190 (211, 232.5, 255.5)m
CC1 (black)—7 (7.5, 8.5, 9.5) yds / 6.5 (7, 7.75, 8.5)m
CC2 (red), CC3 (yellow), and CC4 (white)— 1 (1, 1, 1.5) yd(s) / 1 (1, 1, 1)m each color

Needles:
Size US 1 (2.25 mm), or size needed for gauge, straight, circular, or double pointed needles. A 16” / 40cm circular needle in gauge size is recommended for the sole. I used a 32” circular needle using the Magic Loop method in lieu of the 16” needle.

Notions:
Yarn needle, 4 removable stitch markers, waste yarn or 2 small stitch holders Safety pins work well!
