You’ll need:
One or two balls of snuggly cashmere or cashmerino yarn, one button or toggle, and a bodkin to sew in the ends.

This snuggler was designed for a very elderly woman, quite frail but very discerning. The yarn needs to be superbly soft for the delicate older skin and minimally fluffy. Any of the suggested yarns fit that bill, but please feel free to substitute other weights or perhaps your own handspun.

The lace pattern down the centre of the scarf is from the magnificent Woolly Wormhead’s famed Mystery Meret Beret and would make its perfect accompaniment. Full details of this adapted horseshoe pattern along with the info on the Meret are available from Ms Wormhead here.

A beginning knitter who is slightly wary of trying the Meret will like this as a way to practice the pattern, which is comfortably repetitive and relaxing for the more advanced.

You will need to know how to make yarnovers YO and slip-slip-knit2tog SSK as well as simple rib. You can use any cast on or cast off you wish, whatever is easy for you and looks nice.

The pattern calls for size 5mm needles but you can use larger or smaller if you change the weight of yarn. The key is to find something that will produce big enough eyelet yarnovers to hold an attractive button or toggle.

Enjoy!
