The ‘Matterhorn Sox’ are a sock knitting pattern which include colourwork details on the leg and foot inspired by the Matterhorn, my favourite mountain here in Switzerland. The mountain has an iconic pyramid shape which has been an inspiration to many and even been used to create the shape of the chocolate Toblerone bar!

These socks are knit from the cuff down with a 2 x 2 ribbed cuff, an eye of partridge heel-flap and gusset (any other heel can be substituted) and have a section of colourwork on the leg and a section before the toe decreases. This pattern uses the magic loop circular needle method (but can also be knit with dpns).

This pattern has step by step English instructions with charts for the easy to knit colourwork sections.

Needle size is chosen according to the size required and gauge for the colourwork section.
•Small (foot circumference 19-20cm) 2.25mm (US1) needles, 38sts x 40 rounds 10cm
•Medium (foot circumference 21-22cm) 2.5mm (US1.5) needles, 34sts x 38 rounds 10cm
•Large (foot circumference 23-24cm) 2.75mm (US2) needles, 32sts x 36 rounds 10cm

Foot length is easily adjustable.
