Construction notes: Maude is a raglan sweater that is knit top down. Starting from the neck, the first yoke section is worked with Short Rows. Delicate raglan seams run along the shoulders to the underarm. The sweater features a classic fit with tapered sleeves. Wide cuffs and a classic hem in twisted rib stitch underline the elegant silhouette. The sweater is finished with a double-layered round collar in twisted rib stitch and features a delicate bow to tie the whole look together.
Inspiration: This pattern is inspired by Maude Adams.
Maude Adams (February 11, 1872 – July 17, 1953)
was a talented American actress known for her strength and charm. She had a long career in theater, captivating audiences with her performances and leaving a lasting impact on the stage. One of her most famous roles was in Peter Pan, where she brought the character to life with her grace and imagination. This role is often remembered for its iconic collar, which inspires the design of this sweater.
One of Maude’s most inspiring quotes is:
“I am grateful for all my problems. After each one was overcome, I became stronger and more able to meet those that were still to come. I grew in all my difficulties.”
This statement highlights how facing challenges can help us grow and become stronger.
The Maude Sweater captures this spirit of overcoming difficulties, both in life and in knitting. Its beautiful design features a special collar that combines a classic look with a modern touch. The mix of textures and colors reflects the ups and downs we experience in life, celebrating both the good and tough moments.
As I knit this sweater, each stitch reminded me that we can turn challenges into something beautiful. The flowing lines of the sweater symbolize the grace that comes from overcoming struggles, providing warmth and comfort as we navigate life’s journey.
For me, the Maude Sweater is more than just a piece of clothing; it represents gratitude and strength—a celebration of the challenges that shape us into who we are.
