For a while, I have wanted to create a shawl that would carry my mum’s name, yet none of my earlier ideas ever felt quite right. When this design came to life on my needles, I knew I had found the one. While it echoes the spirit of the Joanna Shawl, its single-colour palette and twisted knit detail through the rib rows lend it a refined character entirely its own.
The large crescent shawl and coordinating cowl are worked sideways, allowing the fabric to grow beautifully without ever placing too many stitches on the needle at once. Twisted broken rib creates rich texture throughout, while an i-cord edge on both sides provides a polished, supple finish. Instructions for the cowl are included at the end of the pattern.
