When May comes, the sun is finally out to stay and I just want to wear something light and pretty. A fine knit lace yoke is just what I need!

NOTE: this pattern is for the lace yoke ONLY. You will need a bought tee shirt, or a separate sewing pattern to complete your tee. I used Sencha (white yoke) and Adelaide (blue yoke). Both needed minor changes (to remove the button up back on Sencha, and the yoke seam on Adelaide), but I couldn’t find a pattern that was absolutely perfect. Other companion sewing pattern options include: Mimosa Blouse, Scout Tee, Belcarra Blouse, Boxy Tee, Zippy, and Elise Tee.
Depending on the tee shirt you use, May Yoke can be dressy or casual.

May is the third in my 2015 collection of fine-gauge sweaters. I asked myself; what if I made a whole collection of sweaters, exactly as I would like them to look, and feel, without worrying about how long they take to make, or how complicated the pattern might be…? Here is the result. In truth, they are not excessively complex, nor incredibly difficult, but, these patterns are not recommended for beginners. They are made for those who are comfortable knitting already, and want to use what they already know to get an unusually flattering and wearable garment.
That said, if you are adventuresome, and enjoy a long knit, some confident beginners might like them as a starting point to learn new skills. Just be aware that the pattern will not include detailed tutorials for the skills and stitches used, you will need to use google and YouTube for “how-tos”.

You will need to be comfortable knitting lace (yarn overs, slip-slip-knit, knit two together, and so on) already. Fine gauge can be tricky, I don’t recommend crochet thread for learning. You do not need advanced sewing skills. If you can blanket-stitch the lace yoke onto a bought tee shirt you will be fine. However, if you do know how to sew this is a great project to show off your knitting and sewing skills!
And, this is not easy lace. The picot cast on will take a while to complete. There are double yarnovers and the decreases may become confusing. If that isn’t enough, there are very few “knit all” rounds. If you enjoy a challenge, this one will be fun!
