McKinley Cable Mittens
Classic and timeless, these warm woolen mittens feature bold cables and turned up cuffs to chase away those cold winter winds. The cable pattern really pops against the smooth background and doesn’t drift to the side like most crochet cable patterns worked in the round. This pattern also features an extra little variation on the post stitch in order to avoid those pesky holes that happen next to your cable stitches. Being from Minnesota, I take my warm mittens very seriously!
This is not a beginner pattern. All stitches are described in pattern directions, however you should have some experience with post stitches (or be willing to learn a lot) in order to complete this pattern.
If you don’t have experience with post stitches but still want to make these, you may want to check out my online mittens class on Craftsy. In the video I demonstrate the same skills that you need while making a different pair of mittens. (Link coming.)
This pattern takes two skeins of Cascade 220 superwash…. But you only need about half of the second skein. You should need about 320 yds for the S/M size and about 365 yds for size L.
Just so ya know…. even though this is listed as a worsted weight yarn, it is really a bit thinner than most worsted weight yarn. The yarn company website actually lists it as between a CYCA #3 and #4.
