Meicigama Socks
Michigan borders four of the five Great Lakes. “They tell us in elementary school that Michigan comes from a Chippewa word “meicigama” that means great water.” (Flint Journal, March 31, 2009) Lake Michigan, Superior, Huron and Erie all border our great state.
With great water in mind, I chose an adaptation of the vintage feather and fan pattern with some cables to knit these wavy socks.
So get your knitting bag packed up, sit at the waters edge and knit up some Meicigamas for yourself! That’s my plan. Knit from cuff to toe with fingering weight yarn they are just what’s needed for a great knit. You will need a cable needle and the pattern for the Meicigama is written out in detailed format for both the leg and top of the foot.
