INTRODUCTION :
Melati Hat is a reversible hat with flower crown on top. Melati (pronounced Mæ-la-tee; means Jasmine flower in Bahasa Indonesia) is Indonesian national flower, often used in many occasions in Indonesia, such as a traditional wedding. The use of Jasmine flowers can also be found in daily consumption; a cup of Jasmine tea.

Jasmine flower motif in this hat reminds me of “Roncean Melati”, traditional head piece accessories used by brides in traditional Javanese wedding. The flower crown on top is my version of Rose flower, the symbol of women’s beauty.

This hat is an easy and quick to knit project with pleasing result, perfect for last minute gift. Feel the exotic flowery feeling to knit in no time!

NEEDLES and NOTIONS :
* US-7 (4.5 mm) double pointed needles
(dpns) or circular needle, 16 inches
long
* US-8 (5 mm) circular needle, 16 inches
long
* 1 set of 5 mm double pointed needles
(dpns) – (optional, for crown shaping)

• 1 cable needle
• 6 stitch markers
• 1 tapestry needle

TENSION / GAUGE :
14 stitches x 37 rows = 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm) square in main motif. Adjust your needle size for correct gauge.

FINISHED SIZE :
Head circumference : 20.5 inches / 52 cm (before blocking, fits up to 58 cm)
Height : 9 inches / 23 cm
