Melisma Hat
The Melisma Hat’s elegant cables twirl and flow up from the ribbed brim like lines of melody and, with only a handful of cable crosses on alternating rounds, it makes for a quick and satisfying knit. The matching Melisma Scarf is also available separately.
Skills & Techniques
The Long Tail Cast On (optional), working 2-over-2 cables, and working double decreases. Both charts and full written instructions are provided.
Materials Needed
1 (1) skein of John Arbon Textiles Harvest Hues Worsted (33% Bluefaced Leicester, 33% Falklands Merino, 33% Zwartbles; 219yds/200m per 100g skein), or
130 (173)yds/119 (158.5)m of worsted-weight yarn.
Sample colourway: ‘Burdock’.
You will also need a cable needle, an end-of-round stitch marker, 2 (3) stitch markers for between repeats (optional), and a tapestry needle for weaving in the ends.
Finished Measurements
Sizes 1 (2), relaxed and unstretched after blocking:
11.5 (15)”/28.5 (38)cm brim circumference, and
8.5 (9)”/21.5 (23)cm long from brim to crown.
Sizes 1 (2) to fit head circumference:
18-20 (22-24)”/46-51 (56-61)cm
Sample is shown in size 2 on my 22”/56cm circumference head. Note that this hat is very stretchy due to the large amount of 2x2 ribbing.
