Inspired by a Glacier, Mendenhall is a small shawl for wearing over a coat or favorite sweater. The focus is on the back square with arms that come up over the shoulders and finish at the bust. It is perfect for keeping your back and shoulders warm as you sit working at a desk or walking down the street in your favourite coat! You know, the one that isn’t quite warm enough but makes you feel and look terrific! This will make that coat warmer and even more gorgeous!

Pattern starts from the center of the square which is knit cirularly and then the arms are picked up from two sides of the square.

Materials: 400 yds worsted/aran weight yarn: samples were knit with Malabrigo Rios (green sample) and Wayfaring Yarns Arcadia Aran (turquoise sample); 5.0mm US#8 needles, dpn’s, 16-, 24-, and 32-inch circs; markers and the regular notions.

Note on Yardage – if you are in any way a loose knitter and wish to knit the shawl with just two hanks of either yarn , take your needle size down to 4.5mm as the yardage is very tight, especially with the Arcadia Aran.

Gauge: 16 sts in 4 inches in stockinette (remember to circular swatch)

Dimensions: Back is 17 inches square; arms are 14 inches long and 11 inches wide at ends.
