Merlo – soft, cute, crazy and cuddly! Limited pieces to make and sew together too. Everyone wins!

Merlo is an intermediate amigurumi (crochet) pattern written in US (American) terms. The pattern includes detailed instructions in an easy to follow layout but a knowledge of basic crochet stitches and techniques used to make amigurumi is essential.

Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your finished items. My Merlo measures 14cm tall (5½ inches) when seated.

You will receive one PDF file which requires software like Adobe Reader to open (this is free to download).

Please contact me immediately if you have purchased this pattern thinking it is an actual toy as I do not process refunds after the PDF file has been downloaded.

You will need:

  • 2.5mm hook/C-2(US)
  • 4ply yarns/Sport weight > 100g in MAIN COLOUR, less than 50g in WHITE
  • 8ply BLACK yarn to embroider mouth
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
  • Polyester toy stuffing
  • 15mm Plastic safety eyes
  • Stitch marker (optional)

Notes:

  • A yarn with no stretch is best and amigurumi is usually stitched in the round.
  • The hook you use for amigurumi will be a smaller than for other crochet as you want the stitches tight to keep stuffing from showing and for attachments to stay in place.
  • This pattern is designed for use with a variegated yarn or colour changing yarn. Alternatively, you may choose to use single colours of yarn and alternate colours as you go – for example every 2nd row or by making the body one colour and the limbs other colours
  • For this pattern, the following yarns were used: o MAIN COLOUR = Alize Cotton Gold Batik col. 4146 o WHITE = Scheepjes Cotton 8 in col. 502 o BLACK = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in col. 402 Pure Black
  • I have used plastic safety eyes for this pattern but you may choose to crochet or embroider instead. Please ensure that there are no loose fittings.
