Midsommar Pillow

I believe in knitting year round. I just do. So I wanted something in my new book The Nordic Knitting Primer for every season. This is summer with its Midsommar pole, three Billy Goats Gruff, Fish, houses, flowers, bikes, viking ships and more. You will love knitting from motif to motif. It’s not as hard as you might think. This is the summer version of my Swedish Christmas Pillow. It’s an extremely fun knit. I hope you love it!

YARN: Aran | Biches & Bûches Le Gros Lambswool
| 100% Scottish Lambswool | 210 yards (192 m) per
3.5-ounce (100-g) skein
MAIN COLOR (MC): Medium Blue | 2 skeins
252 yards (230 m)
CONTRASTING COLOR (CC): Undyed White | 1 skein
126 yards (115 m)
NEEDLES: One 32-inch (80-cm) circular needle in
size needed to obtain gauge in colorwork
SUGGESTED NEEDLE SIZE: US 7 (4.5 mm)
One 32-inch (80-cm) circular needle one size
smaller than gauge-size needle to use for single
color knitting
SUGGESTED NEEDLE SIZE: US 6 (4 mm)
ADDITIONAL MATERIALS
Stitch markers, scissors, tapestry needle, 6 ¾-inch
(2-mm) buttons, 1 20 x 20–inch (50 x 50–cm) pillow,
and 24 inches (60 cm) of decorative ribbon
GAUGE AND SWATCH
20 stitches and 20 rounds = 4 inches (10 cm) on
larger needles

PRO TIP: Never catch a float on a stitch that
has a float catch on the stitch directly below
it. Alter the catch by at least one stitch or
your catch will show through on the front.
