This is an easy to follow pattern for a variation of my Basic Beige Babe cardigan, in a lighter weight 100% merino yarn. The cardigan is worn with 11.5 in 29 cm positive ease in the torso compared to underarm chest measurement. I designed this all occasion, season smashing, raglan cardigan as a wardrobe staple for everyone. I wanted to make something practical and washable, that looked great, that can wear all year round. This version is worked in a luxurious feeling aran weight superwash merino. It’s easy in every sense; machine washable and an easy tv knit dream. There are substitutes for this yarn on yarnsub.com if you struggle to get it. It’s a relatively simple top-down, classic raglan design. It has a contrasting color neck and hem edging which you can include or not.

If you are new to top-down raglan shaping knitting it can seem a bit complex at first as there are multiple rates of shaping in the initial rows. Fear not! this is a tested learner pattern, edited by experts, and I have simplified the shaping increases as much as possible, as well as, providing comprehensive instructions and a tick box row by row worksheet, which explains it all.

This design is for everyone, it comes in 9 sizes from XS to 5XL.

The advantage of top-down? You can try it on as you go and make the cardigan and sleeve fit exactly the way you want them to.

Never knitted a cardigan or new to top-down methods? Give it go. What have you got to lose? “YOU CAN DO THIS! REALLY!!”
