This pattern started with the desire to make a two-sided scarf and ended with a coordinating set of three pieces. The twist is that the worsted weight wool is enhanced with a single strand of lace weight mohair/silk which makes it warmer and makes it feel luxurious. Knitter’s will learn how to make mini-cables without the assistance of a cable needle.

Skill Level: Intermediate.

Sizes:
Hat size: to fit 19”, 21”, 23”.
Scarf size: 8” wide by 72” long.
Mitten size: Width of palm above thumb 7 3/4”.

Yardage:
Hat: 180 (200, 220) yards/165 (185, 200) meters each yarn.
Scarf: 440 yards/400 meters each yarn.
Mittens: 120 yards/110 meters each yarn.

Gauge:
Hat gauge: in rib pattern in the round with both yarns 23 sts = 4”/10 cm using larger needles.
Scarf gauge: in rib pattern with both yarns held together 28 sts = 4”/10 cm.
Mitten gauge: in stockinette worked in the round using both yarns on larger needles 19 sts = 4”/10 cm.

Note: Gauge will not be noticeably affected if only worsted weight wool is used and lace weight yarn is omitted.

Needles and notions:
Hat: one set each 16” (40 cm) US Size 6 (4.0 mm) and US Size 8 (5.0 mm) circular needles and one set US Size 8 (5.0 mm) double-pointed needles or size needed to obtain gauge.
Scarf: US Size 9 (5.5 mm) or needles sized to achieve gauge.
Mittens: Size 6 (4.0 mm) and US Size 8 (5.0 mm) double-pointed needles or size needed to obtain gauge, stitch markers, small stitch holder.
