In Shetland lace knitting the candlelight pattern is usually knitted on a garter base but in this cowl it is made on a stocking stitch base. Once the cowl was finished I did not blocked it as I loved the texture of the unblocked pattern. It can be blocked if you wish but this would make the finished size bigger.

In Shetland we call the dark the mirk. Candlelight in times past would have lit the croft houses of Shetland.
