The lace cowl begins with a provisional cast on, which is later grafted to the final row. The piece is worked back and forth in rows in a lace and cable pattern that is provided in both charted and written instructions.

If you have spun up a larger amount of yarn and wish for a scarf instead, you may omit the provisional cast on, and work instead 6 rows of garter stitch prior to beginning to work from the chart. After reaching the desired length (or if you are near to the end of your yarn), and ending with Row 26 of the chart, work then 6 rows of garter stitch to finish the piece, then cast off all stitches.

Chart and text of chart are both provided.

The handspun yarn for the sample is a blend of 55% silk and 45% yak, and was spun by Vanessa Bjerreskov with a supported spindle for this collaboration.
