Los Mitones Between the Lines son un accesorio derivado de mi diseño Between the Lines Headband, presente en el libro “52 weeks of accesories” de editorial Laine.

Cuando diseñé la banda para el pelo pensé en crear un accesorio que le diera mucho estilo y color a los días más fríos, inspirado en la idea de aquello que podemos ver “entrelíneas”, ya que se compone de líneas y bloques de color que forman un dibujo en el que a veces se mimetiza el fondo con la forma.

Los mitones aparecieron en mis manos de manera muy natural y por enamoramiento al patrón que creé para la banda de pelo, ya que es un diseño que aprovecha restos de hilado, se memoriza muy fácilmente y resulta muy entretenido y hermoso de tejer, por cómo van interactuando los colores al ser combinados.

CONSTRUCCIÓN

Los mitones se trabajan de abajo hacia arriba, es decir, se empiezan por el brazo y de terminan en la punta de los dedos. Se tejen de manera circular y, en mi caso, los hice con la técnica de “magic loop”. Las instrucciones, por lo tanto, se estructuran en base a esta técnica pero pueden adaptarse fácilmente si quieres tejerlos con agujas de doble punta.

Se inician con punto elástico simple, para luego trabajar una trenza letona en dos colores. El patrón “entrelíneas” se trabaja en todo el accesorio y se basa en 12 vueltas que se repiten y en las que se van combinando e interactuando los 5 colores de base.

Terminado el brazo, se trabajan los aumentos para el pulgar y luego se dejan en espera estos puntos para realizar algunas vueltas más hasta llegar a la mitad de los dedos. Se cierran estos puntos con una nueva trenza letona y algunas vueltas en punto elástico simple.

Para finalizar, se recogen los puntos en espera del pulgar, se levantan algunos puntos y se le da cierre.

70% lana merino, 30% poliamida de Meia (Rosarios4), 185 m por cada madeja de 50 g, en 5 colores:

CA: Azul (N° 13).
CB: Verde agua (N° 20)
CC: Verde (N° 15)
CD: Lila (N° 30)
CE: Petróleo (N° 19)

Metraje: Utilizarás aproximadamente 67 (75, 90) m de cada color.

Gramaje: Utilizarás aproximadamente 18 (20, 24) g de cada color.

AGUJAS

Agujas circulares de 2.75 mm o el grosor necesario para alcanzar la muestra de tensión (con cable de al menos 80 cm de largo para realizar magic loop)

MUESTRA

32 pts x 33 Vs = 10x10 cm, tejida en punto jersey en circular con agujas de 2.75 mm o el grosor necesario para obtener la muestra medida después de bloquear.

“Between the Lines Mittens” are an accessory derived from my “Between the Lines Headband” design, featured in the book “52 weeks of Accessories” by Laine Publishing.

When I designed the headband, I aimed to create an accessory that would add style and color to the colder days, inspired by the concept of seeing things “between the lines”, as it consists
of lines and blocks of color forming a pattern where sometimes the background
blends with the foreground.

The mittens came to me very naturally, inspired by my affection for the pattern I created for the headband. It’s a design that utilizes leftover yarn, is easily memorizable, and is very enjoyable and beautiful to knit due to the interaction of colors as they are combined.

CONSTRUCTION

The mittens are worked bottom up, meaning you start at the arm and finish at the fingertips. They are knitted in the round, and in my case, I used the “magic loop” technique. Therefore, the instructions are based on this technique, but they can be easily adapted if you prefer to knit them using DPNs.

You begin with a simple rib stitch, then proceed to work a Latvian braid in two colors. The “between the lines” pattern is worked throughout the accessory and is based on 12 rounds that repeat, combining and interacting with the 5 base colors.

After completing the arm portion, you work increases for the thumb, then place these stitches on hold while you work a few more rounds to reach the midpoint of the fingers. These stitches are then closed with a new Latvian braid and a few rounds of simple rib stitch.

To finish, you pick up the stitches placed on hold for the thumb, pick up some additional stitches, and bind them off.

1 (2, 3) correspond to a hand circumference (measured at the knuckles) of 17 (19, 21) cm.

YARN

70% merino wool, 30% polyamide from Meia (Rosarios4), 185 m per 50 g skein, in 5 colors:

32 stitches x 33 rows = 10x10 cm, knitted in stockinette stitch in the round with 2.75 mm needles or the necessary thickness to achieve gauge, measured after blocking.
