During mitosis, a series of five phases happen where one cell separates into two daughter cells. The process is magical, much like the steps involved in creating a knitting project. Selecting materials, swatching to ensure the finished item will be the correct size, casting on, managing yarns, binding off, and finishing. One step feeds into the next, and in the end, a brand new item is made from the original materials: time, resources, knowledge, and talent.

This project is worked in the round using the following knitting knowledge:

  • cast on
  • knit/purl
  • reading charts
  • stranded knitting
  • decreasing
  • finishing

Knowledge of cell division is not required, but it’s always good to learn!
