Mitten Prints
This pattern would look great in a winter-themed afghan or scarf; I was thinking of a kid pressing their mittens into a snowbank. There are 24 stitches and 18 rows in the pattern but 11 of those rows are either knit or purl across. That leaves just 7 rows of yarn overs and decreases! Each row begins and ends with 24 stitches. The 2-stitch garter stitch border I used to stabilize the swatch edges aren’t included in the instructions.
Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl, YO, k2tog, SSK and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
48 yards of Aunt Lydia’s #10 crochet cotton will make 10 inches of a 24-stitch-wide strip at gauge.
