Perfect for those who are passionate about pachyderms, these densely knit elephant mittens are a bright option during a cold winter. Pattern includes full colour charts and written instructions for creating the picot edge and Latvian braid.
This pattern is for you if… You live in a really cold climate and want a pair of mittens in a thicker yarn with a tight gauge. You love elephants!
Move along if… You hate tacking floats, as there are some spots with long gaps between colours.
YARN
- 130 yards of worsted weight yarn in main colour (yellow)
- 155 yards of worsted weight yarn in contrast colour (white)
NEEDLES & NOTIONS
- US 2 / 2.75mm double pointed needles, or size necessary to obtain gauge
- 2 stitch markers
- waste yarn for holding thumb stitches
- tapestry needle for weaving in ends
SIZE
- one size; comfortably fits a hand with a 7.5” palm circumference
- finished dimensions: 12.5” in length
TECHNIQUES/SKILLS
- knitting in the round
- reading a colourwork chart
- tacking floats
- increasing stitches using M1L or M1R
- decreasing stitches using k2tog and ssk
- picking up and knitting held stitches
- picot edge
- Latvian braid
