Pay What Works: In an effort to find a balance between more financial accessibility and sustainable pricing, I now offer a “Pay What Works” model. This allows for financial flexibility while still valuing and respecting the work and energy I and others provide in the making of this pattern. The price shown on Ravelry is the “true” value of the pattern that best reflects the work put into creating this design.
To purchase the pattern at a price point that is more accessible to you, use the coupon code at checkout listed next to the price point. The prices indicate the price you will pay, not the discount amount. No coupon code is needed for the highest price point.
AROHA1 - $6.00

“Whatungarongaro te tangata, toitu te whenua.”
(As man disappears from sight, the land remains.)
- Māori Proverb & the English Translation
We Māori link our ancestral ties to landmarks; the mountain, the river are our ancestors. When I consider the concept of #LandBack, the link to the land becomes that of land stewardship as opposed to land ownership. Giving indigenous people sovereignty over their land means more than just living on the land. It means paying attention to the elements: Fire, Air, Water, Earth. It means finding a way to sustain the land, so the land will continue to sustain us.
All of this informed my Spring Mystery Sustainability KAL design for LadyDyeYarns.
YARN
- 780 - 880 yds/710 - 804 m
- Single-ply fingering
- Lady Dye Yarns, Single Ply Fingering (100% Superwash Merino; 100 g ; 440 yds./400m). 2 skeins in Grape Jelly.
- Single-ply fingering yarns leave a nice fuzzy halo. Not as elastic as the 4-ply but still bouncy and sturdy.
NEEDLES
- US 6/4 mm size or size needed to obtain gauge, 32 in./80 cm circular needle.
- A long circular needle is recommended in order to accommodate the large
number of stitches as the shawl grows.
GAUGE
- 24 sts and 32 rows over 4 in./10 cm in main stitch patterns with needle size and after blocking.
- Gauge is not crucial to this project, but varying gauges will affect yardage and final measurements.
