Mokita
Mokita means “the truth that everybody knows but no one talks about”. The truth in question is mental illness. I designed this shawl to fight the stigma and raise funds for mental health – every cent of the sale price is donated to Mind. You can read why over here.
Borrowing Francoise Danoy’s excellent idea, I’m trying a “pay what works” model for this fundraising pattern. You choose the price that makes sense to you – click below to have it applied.
Wrap yourself in the comfort of a soft silk and mohair shawl. This one’s highly adaptable, with options for laceweight or aran yarns (or try anything in between!), and a choice of garter stitch or crochet borders – perhaps in a contrast yarn? Add beads to up the glamour factor (tutorial included), or try a smooth silk yarn on the border for extra definition.
Straight edges and a lace pattern that repeats over the full length of the shawl make this a meditative knit, soothing despite the complexity. Think of a loved one and stitch your feelings for them into the fabric.
The aran version uses three skeins of the recommended yarn (715 m / 780 yds), plus a contrast yarn for the crochet border (150 m / 165 yds of DK weight), and measures 72 x 30 inches.
The lace-weight version uses four balls (835 m / 915 yds of heavy lace-weight mohair) and measures 65 x 23 inches.
If beading, you will need 300 beads. Size 6 seed beads are right for the mohair yarn.
This pattern is included in my Buy 3, get 1 free offer. Of course the full sale price (of your choice) will still be donated.
