Mom's Sophisticated Scarf
Pattern description from Stitch ‘N Bitch Nation: “I made the mistake of letting my mother know about my new hobby about three weeks after I’d started knitting. That’s when she conscripted me: ‘That’s great! I want a scarf for my birthday to go with my new red jacket.’ You don’t say no to my mother, so I got to work. This scarf is made in a merino yarn that’s soft on the skin but twisted more tightly than most wool, which helped my clumsy beginner’s fingers from splitting loops. The basketweave stitch is so easy to knit up, it almost seems like cheating to be making such an interesting pattern using nothing more than knits and purls. Now Mom wants me to teach her to knit.”
