Easy to knit, meaningful to wear: this shawl grows from simple garter stitches into a sweeping crescent, finished with a bold, geometric edge that adds movement and contrast.
If you’re looking for something meaningful but meditative, Moon in Red offers both. Clear structure, simple colorwork, and a striking final border make it a satisfying knit from start to finish.

Moon in Red is shaped like a crescent moon, carrying a thread of protest.
The construction is simple and elegant: a body shaped with regular increases, a garter-based mosaic fabric that plays with light and contrast echoing the traditional keffiyeh motifs, and a bold final border that changes the pace.
The pattern begins with an improved garter tab CO and continues with easy mosaic colorwork: just slipped stitches and garter ridges creating bold black-and-white motifs.
The border is worked sideways in short, manageable rows, gradually binding off the stitches of the body. Along its outer edge, a sharply defined zigzag, created with a special technique, adds rhythm and movement.
Sometimes, you want a knit that flows easily but carries weight. This shawl offers exactly that.
Whether you knit it for its look or for what it might quietly represent, this shawl lets you say something without using words.
